Why should you adopt from HOKAFI?

Good Question.  WHY NOT?

Quite often we hear “I’d rather adopt from a ‘kill’ shelter and really save a life”.  Yes we are a “no kill” shelter but, when you adopt from HOKAFI you are really saving a life.  Like other shelters when one of our residents is adopted into a loving, permanent home, room is made for the next life we can save.

We take great pride in the care we give to each and every HOKAFI resident.  They are fed the most nutritious food, given medical care above and beyond most other facilities and most important, we provide ongoing support.

Adopting one of our cats or dogs is a bargain!  Most of the dogs and cats that find their way are intact, meaning they will need to have a spay or neuter procedure scheduled.

The cost to spay a female cat which includes office visit, pre op blood work and spay surgery can be as high as $150.00 and as high as $200.00 for a 50 pound female dog.

The cost to neuter a male cat which includes office visit, pre op blood work and neuter surgery can be as high as $125.00 and as high as $150.00 for a 50 pound male dog.

Felv/FIV combo tests for felines alone average $40.00 per cat to test for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids viruses.  The vaccines for these diseases average $40.00 and feline rabies vaccines average $20.00 per cat.

4DX tests for canines to detect Parvo, heartworm and lyme diseases average $35.00 per dog.  The DHLPP, Bordetella (kennel cough), Rabies, Borrelia (lyme disease) and booster vaccines average $100 per dog.

Many of them come to us with other medical issues, sometimes life threatening.  Each and every one is treated whether it’s a case of upper respiratory infections, teeth extractions, severe eye or ear infections, orthopedic repairs, heartworm treatment, you name it and we take care of it.

Your new kitty isn’t using the litter box regularly or your new dog is having a problem with housebreaking or leash walking.  Whatever the issue might be, we are just a phone call away.  We certainly don’t have all of the answers but will provide you with as much information and advice at our disposal to help you integrate your new family member into your household and do our best to minimize failures and maximize successes.

So, why not adopt from HOKAFI?
