Volunteer positions are available in all areas of the shelter for both
dogs and cats:
- Adult Cat Shelter – Long-term open area with 40-45 cats.
- Main Cat Shelter – Short-term, open area with adoptable cats
and kittens.
- Special Needs – Long-term, open area with separate facilities
for FIV, Feline Leukemia and other special needs.
- Basement Area – Short-term, caged area for new arrivals, sick/injured
cats and post ops.
Please note: Cat shelter duties can include cage cleaning, litter box
maintenance, feeding, general shelter cleaning, laundry, grooming and
medicating.

- Dog Kennel – Kennel cleaning, laundry, grooming, medicating,
and exercising of 10 adult dogs.
- Fundraising

Requirements for Shelter Volunteers:
- All volunteers must have a current tetanus vaccine.
- All volunteers must be 13 years of age or older. Volunteers between
the ages of 13 and 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Dog kennel volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
- Shelter work is physical - bending and lifting is extensive. If you
can’t handle physical work, consider joining one of our committees,
such as fundraising! Or make crafts!
- Must enjoy direct contact with animals and have some experience in
handling them.
- Average time needed is 2-4 hours weekly or work around your schedule.
- Volunteers are needed mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends.
- Each volunteer must provide their own transportation to the shelter
in Dillsburg.
- For their own safety and well-being, volunteers may not work at the
shelter if pregnant, however, many other volunteer opportunities are
available.
